In Trinidad, Adventist university opens Center for African Studies

The University of Southern Caribbean (USC) launched its Center for African Studies to commemorate the 180th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the British West Indies, during a special activities held on campus in Trinidad and Tobago, Aug. 4, 2014.
Minister Councillor of the Nigerian High Commission Nasiru Waje commended university leaders for the initiative and said the center “should be viewed as an ‘Act of restitution’ as it helps to ensure that the contributions of Africans to humanity are well transmitted and documented.”

In Colombia, university students are motivated to serve in the mission field

Nearly 2,000 young people, students and professionals from throughout Colombia, Peru and Argentina took part in an Adventist Missions International Congress coined as “I will go too.” The congress sought to motivate professionals and university students to serve in the mission field. Organized by Colombia Adventist University in Medellin, Jul. 31- Aug. 2, 2014, the event is third such event to promote the mission work around the world.

In Suriname, Church celebrates 120th anniversary of Adventist message

The Seventh-day Adventist Church held a series of activities earlier this month to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the Adventist message entering Suriname. It was a celebration which gathered dozens of church leaders, government leaders and community members at the Chamber of Commerce in Paramaribo, Aug. 6-9, 2014.

Vice President of the Republic of Suriname Robert Ameerali praised the work of the church for its contribution to society during a prayer breakfast held with parliament officials and religious liberty leaders.

Venezuela: Adventists participate in city-wide impact throughout capital city

Hundreds of Seventh-day Adventists took a week off from their busy schedules for a major community impact event in Caracas, Venezuela, from August 4-9, 2014.

The six-day impact saw more than 2,000 volunteers bring a smile, share hope and beautify and offer help in dozens of parks, streets and communities throughout the city.

North Colombia: Church launches first radio and television stations online

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in North Colombia recently launched its online radio and television stations during a special ceremony from its new studios in Medellin, Colombia.

The event, held last month, marked a historic accomplishment for the 167,000-strong membership in the region, church leaders said. The church now has its first official Adventist web-based radio station—Esperanza Colombia Radio in Colombia, as well as the first online Esperanza Colombia TV channel.

Guatemala: Government launches Adventist health initiative during youth congress

Thousands of Adventist young people demonstrated their dedication to living a healthy lifestyle as Guatemala’s Ministry of Health officials launched a health initiative from the National Palace of Culture Plaza, in Guatemala City earlier today.

The event brought government leaders and health organizations together to promote the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s initiative called “I Want to Live Healthy.”

President of Guatemala encourages delegates at Youth Congress to be agents of change

Nearly 6,000 Adventist youth delegates listened eagerly to President of Guatemala Otto Perez Molina during Inter-America’s Youth Congress opening program yesterday at Ciudad San Cristobal Mega Auditorium in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

“I am truly happy that you are here and are embracing Guatemala,” said Otto Perez Molina, president of Guatemala, as he welcomed the delegates.

Jamaica: Ministry of Health seeks assistance from Adventist Church in national smoking cessation plan

The Ministry of Health, as part of its overall plan to have a smoke-free society has engaged the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Jamaica to assist in its smoking cessation (quitting smoking) drive with their “Breathe Free” program.
