In Haiti, Adventist Communicators are Trained to Connect Better with Their Churches and Communities

A core group of Seventh-day Adventist communicators in Haiti took part in special training sessions last week to focus on sharing the message of hope in their communities. Nearly 100 traveled to the capital city of Port-au-Prince to learn more about church initiatives and resources, sharpen their skills, and network to better serve their local congregations and communities during the two-day event held Feb. 20-21, 2017.

In Jamaica, five deaf persons join the church among dozens baptized

Five deaf persons were among the 104 persons baptized during a tent evangelistic series held in Portmore, St. Catherine, in Jamaica, last week. The hard of hearing new members are the first to be baptized since the Church for the Deaf was established at the Portmore Seventh-day Adventist Church three months ago.

Pastor of the Church for the Deaf Coneil Morgan, whose training in sign language gives him the ability to communicate effectively with members of the deaf community, said that the church has been growing and several hard-of-hearing individuals have expressed an interest in joining.

In Mexico City, Adventist School among top 20 primary schools

An Adventist school in the district of Benito Juarez in Mexico City, Mexico, was recently declared one of 20 best primary schools across the federal district. Miguel Angel Asturias Adventist School, a Pre-K to 9th grade institution, ranked number 17 out of the 3,036 primary schools in the capital city. The results stated that the Adventist school is considered as a Primary School of Excellence from an online grading system.

In Central Mexico, hundreds connect on social media to share about Jesus

Hundreds of Adventist young people in Central Mexico took to their mobile devices to share about Jesus during a live event held at the Adventist Central Church in Mexico City, on Feb. 11, 2017. More than 1,000 youth met with church leaders during a special program on Facebook Live which was viewed across the seven states comprising the Central Mexican Union, or region.

Themed “Conectados en Fe,” or Connected in Faith, the program consisted of young people sharing faith-based videos, images, and audio messages to five of their non-Adventist friends related to the “Fe de Jesus 2.0” or the Faith of Jesus 2.0 online Bible study course.

In Venezuela, Thousands of church members are certified to effectively teach Sabbath School class

More than 4,000 Sabbath School teachers across the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Venezuela received special training last month to become more effective in leading the weekly Bible lesson and engaging members to deepen their knowledge of the Scriptures.

Sabbath school teachers received six to 12 hours of intensive training on how to understand the lesson while listening to God, organizing the lesson with an outline format, objective and reviewing Jesus’ method of teaching, finding teaching methods and understanding learning principles.

In Curaçao, church members seek out the elderly in their rural community

In a small picturesque village on the southwest part of Curaçao, a group of Seventh-day Adventists took the time to celebrate some of the oldest members of the rural community after the mass service at the local Catholic Church in Lagun. The church, which reportedly had been experiencing poor attendance, was packed on Sunday, Jan. 15, as 14 villagers 80 years old and up were honored in a special program and presented with a wooden token engraved with a Bible text.

Montemorelos University students take second place in national short film competition

A group of students from Adventist-operated Montemorelos University recently obtained second place for their film submitted during the 9th national university Hazlo en Cortometraje, or Do it in Short film, contest held in Mexico City, Mexico.

The contest promotes the creation and cinematography training of university students and former graduates by convening them in an annual for short films that propose creative solutions to the social and environmental challenges facing Mexico and the world.

In El Salvador, Adventist Church graduates thousands from its decade-long literacy program

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in El Salvador recently celebrated its decade-long literacy program by graduating more than 500 people who now know how to read and write. The students, mostly adults, smiled big as they held their certificate of completion during a special program held at the Central Adventist Church in San Salvador, on Jan. 17, 2017.

Volunteers Construct Adventist Church in Dominican Republic

Seventh-day Adventists in a community 40 minutes north of Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic, now have a 100-seat church that attracts visitors and not the derision of neighbors.

The Portadores de Luz Seventh-day Adventist Church in Villa Mella had a chapel pieced together from scrap metal, until a squadron of Maranatha Volunteers International participants descended on the location and, in ten days, constructed a new church with a galvanized steel frame and block walls.
