IAD leaders look ahead to the Year of the Pastor and other initiatives

Top Seventh-day Adventist leaders at the Inter-American Division (IAD) began the new year this week reflecting on God’s blessings and trusting in God’s leading for the challenges ahead.

The nearly 100 ordained ministers and staff members at the IAD Headquarters in Miami, Florida, looked back at the church’s growth and finances in 2014 and looked ahead to the numerous evangelism initiatives and activities set forth to celebrate the Year of the Pastor—a year designated to celebrate the work of the pastor and strengthen their families—and continue sharing the message of the gospel across the territory.

13th Sabbath Mission Offering to benefit territories in Inter-America

Portions of the 13th Sabbath Mission Offering, which will be collected at thousands of Seventh-day Adventist Churches around the world on Dec. 20, 2014, will go towards expanding the work of the church in Belize and Jamaica, two of Inter-America’s regions.

Located on the eastern coast of Central America, Belize has nearly 41,000 church members worshiping in 127 churches and congregations in what the church has organized as the Belize Union of Churches.

In Inter-America, small groups are strengthening church membership

Top Seventh-day Adventist leaders from the Inter-American Division (IAD) spoke directly to leaders of thousands of small groups spread across the territory during a special online symposium based in Miami, Florida, on Nov. 21, 2014.

“Today we have the Christian church thanks to the strategy blessed by the Holy Spirit that the early church used to grow,” said Pastor Israel Leito, president of the church in Inter-America as he referenced Acts 2:46,47 during the event. “They met at the temple but went house to house, sharing bread, praising God and enjoying fellowship with one other.”

Inter-America to hold online symposium for small group leaders

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Inter-America will hold a special online symposium on Nov. 21, 2014, at 6:30 p.m. (Miami Time) for leaders of small groups from across the territory. The event will be hosted from the Inter-American Division (IAD) Headquarters in Miami, Florida.

The two-hour online program will seek to reaffirm and strengthen the role each small group leader has in discipling church members to grow spiritually and fulfill the gospel mission, said Pastor Melchor Ferreyra, personal ministries director for the church in Inter-America and organizer of the event.

In Inter-America, Church continues momentum for growth and retention of members

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Inter-America recently closed its second annual business meetings, setting its sights on more church growth and expansion, member retention, and continued efforts to train its members for discipleship and planning to celebrate the work of ministers across the region for 2015.

In Inter-America, thousands of active members get trained to better serve the church

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Inter-America celebrated its Year of Non-Formal Education with a special live program from Willemstad, Curacao, on Oct. 25, 2014. Nearly 200,000 active church members, pastors and administrators were awarded certifications for completing specialized training to better serve the church and the community throughout the territory.

Inter-America to celebrate Year of Non-Formal Education during live program

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Inter-America will wrap up its Year of Non-Formal Education with a special live program from Willemstad, Curacao, on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. Curacao Time (or Eastern Daylight Time). Thousands of laypersons, pastors and administrators will be awarded certifications for completing specialized training to better serve the church and the community.

In Inter-America, Adventists take part in the “Let’s Move to Live” initiative

Seventh-day Adventists across hundreds of churches in the Inter-American Division (IAD) put on their exercise clothes and took to the streets of their communities to promote a healthy lifestyle on Oct. 5, 2014.

The activity was part of a territory-wide initiative run by IAD’s Health Ministries Department called “Let’s Move to Live” where churches organize an exercise program for the membership, and invite the community to promote health, said Belkis Archbold, health ministries director for the church in Inter-America.

In Inter-America, teachers commit to making a difference in students’ lives

He had to repeat first grade three times. When he got to the fourth grade he didn’t know how to do his multiplication tables. Living at home in San Vicente, in El Salvador, with his nine brothers and sisters, there did not seem to be much hope for Elmer Omar Alferez. His report cards showed very low grades until the 6th grade when he was enrolled in the Colegio Modelo Adventista (Adventist Model School) in his hometown.

There he found a teacher by the name of Daniel Avilez who took special interest in Alferez and told him not ever let anyone tell him that he could not accomplish something.

In Inter-America, teachers are reminded to be ministers of the gospel

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Inter-America gathered a core group of its teachers, professors, and educators from across its hundreds of schools and universities for the second territory-wide Education Congress which began last night. More than 1,000 Adventist educators convened in Riviera Maya in Mexico for the four-day event which promises to reassure them of their important leadership role in the lives of their pupils, equip them with knowledge and remind them of their mission to prepare children and young people for the Kingdom of Heaven.
