White Estate temporarily closing for eight-month remodeling project

The estate of Seventh-day Adventist Church co-founder Ellen G. White is scheduled for an eight-month remodeling project that will offer an enhanced visitor center. Starting August 15, the Ellen G. White Estate will be unavailable for tours and research at its location on the lower level at the Adventist Church’s world headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland, United States. The estate is scheduled to reopen in mid-April.

Nepali student gets one millionth dollar from scholarship fund

A Nepali student named Sunita became on Wednesday the recipient of the one millionth dollar from a scholarship fund backed in part by the sale of women’s devotional books.

The one-millionth dollar was included in a $500 scholarship granted to Sunita during a meeting of the Women’s Ministries Scholarship Fund at the world church’s headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland.

U.S. Adventist church opens doors to community after wildfire

The Brewster Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Northwestern U.S. state of Washington opened its doors to serve those affected by the Carlton Complex fire only hours after the church building itself was threatened by the flames of what has become the largest wildfire in state history.

Homes around the church in the city of Brewster were evacuated Thursday evening after authorities issued a mandatory evacuation notice for the region. Flames from the wildfire were rapidly approaching the church vicinity and could be seen coming up over the hill to the south.

Loma Linda University Health unveils record $1.2 billion expansion

Loma Linda University Health announced a record $1.2 billion expansion last week that will include the construction of two new hospital buildings and other facilities.

The Seventh-day Adventist-operated organization in southern California broke the news about the project, dubbed Vision 2020, at a 10 a.m. ceremony attended by top hospital and university officials and more than 2,000 guests.

Volunteers Sought to Treat 5,000 Patients in San Antonio

If you have a DDS or OD after your name, Lela Lewis wants to meet you. Lewis, who has an MD and MPH after her name, is co-organizing an event that is expected to make waves next year in San Antonio, Texas: an opportunity for thousands of local residents to receive free medical care. Hundreds of volunteers, especially dentists (DDS) and optometrists (OD), are needed to care for the 5,000 to 6,000 people who are expected to show up at the AlamoDome stadium over three days.

Imagine a designated smoking area outside your Adventist church. The man seated in your pew must also be thinking about the smoking area because he just quietly slipped out of the building during the Sabbath sermon. A few minutes later he returns, the strong scent of smoke clinging to his dark suit. You smile at him and continue listening to the sermon. No big deal.
