Hours after IAD President Pastor Israel Leito announced his retirement, executive committee members voted today to recommend Dr. Elie Henry as the church’s new president. Dr. Henry has been serving as the executive secretary for the church in Inter-America since 2010. Previous to that he served as one of three vice presidents of the division from 2000-2005. Pastor Leito’s retirement is effective August 1.
“It is a precious time in the transition of the leadership of this Division,” said Adventist World Church President Pastor Ted N.C. Wilson as he addressed the committee.

Inter-American Division President Pastor Israel Leito announced his retirement from church service today as the denomination’s regional business meetings commenced in Miami, Florida.
Next to his fellow administrators, Pastor Leito addressed the executive committee representing the 24 major church regions, or unions, in Inter-America that decision to leave came about after much consideration and prayer.

Antillean Adventist University (AAU), an institution operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Puerto Rico, recently inaugurated a new Health Sciences Simulation Center. The state-of-the-art center will benefit future health care professionals with the most advanced technology in the field, university leaders said.
Mayor of Mayaguez Jose Guillermo Rodríguez applauded the church and its university leaders for opening the most modern and innovative health science simulation center on the island. The ceremony was held on Mar. 13, 2018.

For the fifth year in a row, thousands of Seventh-day Adventist young people from across Inter-America skipped church to show the love of Jesus in their communities. The annual event coined as Global Youth Day encourages Adventist youth around the world to “Be the Sermon” in their cities and communities as they engage in spreading compassion and hope through acts of kindness.

Seventh-day Adventists in Trinidad are devastated by the loss of three of its members, who were victims of a violent knife attack last week.
Investigators said the murders occurred on Mar. 13 in La Brea, a town in the southwestern part of the country. Michael Scott, 69, a retired high school teacher and church elder, Abigail Chapman, 42, a Spanish teacher at the Southern Adventist Academy, her daughter Olivia Chapman, 15, and schoolmate Michaela Mason, 14, were the victims.

Two of the most basic human needs became the driving force behind an unprecedented day of Adventist Youth involvement on the 2018 edition of Global Youth Day (GYD18), a 24-hour period dedicated to reach and serve local communities, on March 17, 2018. From Australia to Argentina and from India to Iceland and beyond, committed Seventh-day Adventist young people and their leaders provided hot meals, drinking water, free books and hugs, and moments of prayer and music to orphan children, urban passersby, senior residents, and others.

Known in Bangladesh for its emphasis on education[1], the Seventh-day Adventist church in Dhaka recently moved outside the classroom to offer education for an often-overlooked population. Leaders from three departments in the Bangladesh Adventist Union Mission (BAUM) provided a health program called Workshop & Seminar for Better Life for the guardians (caregivers) and parents of the largest Adventist school in Dhaka.

Administrators and theology professors across Seventh-day Adventist universities in Inter-America recently met to explore new methodologies for teaching theology.
The three-day meeting, held at Montemorelos University in North Mexico, from Feb. 27 to Mar. 3, saw educators review the updated version of the Handbook of Seventh-day Adventist Ministerial and Theological Education, as well as examine the direction of ministerial plans in the Inter-American Division (IAD) in the coming years.
