Attendance nearly doubles to 18,000 at Zimbabwe meeting

A major evangelistic series in Zimbabwe gathered steam on its second day Monday, with attendance at the main meeting outside the capital, Harare, nearly doubling in size from opening night to reach about 18,000 people.

Two weeks of “Revelation of Hope” evangelistic meetings are being held at 87 sites in 17 cities countrywide following months of preparatory work through 5,000 small group Bible studies and Voice of Prophecy classes.

10,000 gather in Zimbabwean field for evangelistic series

A major two-week evangelistic series began on Sunday evening with thousands of people gathering at 87 sites across Zimbabwe, including 10,000 people in a large field and parking lot outside the capital, Harare.

The “Revelation of Hope” meetings, part of the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s Mission to the Cities initiative to share Jesus in the world’s biggest cities, will culminate on Sabbath, May 30, with an expected 30,000 baptisms.

Church members in Inter-America among the most generous around the world

“The church member in Inter-America is doubly generous than the average member around the world church.”

Those were the words of Inter-American Division’s (IAD) Treasurer Filiberto Verduzco, as he began his financial report to executive committee members gathered for the church’s annual business meetings in Miami, Florida, held this week.

Church leaders review ordination issue, growth and vote initiatives

Day two of the church’s business meetings saw executive committee members from across the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Inter-America reviewing a brief history of the latest findings of the church’s Theology of Ordination Study Committee on the issue of women’s ordination.

More than 100 top church leaders also took the time to vote on upcoming initiatives and activities during meetings in Miami, Florida, yesterday.

Inter-America, Church leaders begin business meetings by reflecting on the last five years

Top Seventh-day Adventist leaders from across Inter-America began their business meetings today by reflecting on God’s blessings and the continued growth across the territory during the last five-year period.

The meetings, held in Miami, Florida, carried a spiritual tone of thanksgiving as top leaders participated in scripture readings, songs of praise, inspired statements and prayer sessions.

Adventist leader in Nepal calls for prayer after new quake

The leader of the Adventist Church in Nepal said overwhelming fear gripped the capital, Kathmandu, after a major earthquake struck on Tuesday, two weeks after another earthquake killed more than 8,000.

Umesh Pokharel, president of the Nepal Section, part of the Southern Asia Division, asked for Adventist believers worldwide to pray for the country.

Adventist University in Puerto Rico begins construction of its first church building

Seventh-day Adventists in Puerto Rico came together to contribute to the construction of the first church built on the campus of the 53-year-old Antillean Adventist University.

More than 3,000 church leaders and members from across the island gathered on the campus on Apr. 26 for a special celebration to witness historic event and participate in spiritual moments, reflections on blessings and fun activities for the family.

In Inter-America, church recognizes the work of two outstanding theologians

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Inter-America, together with its Inter-American Theological Seminary (IATS), recognized two of its outstanding theologians during a brief award ceremony yesterday, in Miami, Florida.

Dr. Angel Manuel Rodriguez, originally from Puerto Rico, who retired five years ago from the church’s Biblical Research Institute at the Adventist World Church in Silver Spring, Maryland, was honored with an Award of Excellence in Theological and Ministerial Education for dedicating decades of his life to ministerial education, contributed to theological reflection, motivated others to generate research of serious study and articulated in-depth but accessible ideas.

In Inter-America, Super Bible Boom winner becomes youth delegate to the church’s upcoming General Conference Session

It took a total of 10:07 minutes for Waylon Johnson of the Atlantic Caribbean Union to answer 50 Bible questions and become the winner of Inter-America’s 2010-2015 Super Bible Boom competition yesterday.

With the win, Johnson will get to travel as an official delegate to the Adventist World Church’s 60th General Conference Session to be held in San Antonio, Texas, this July.
