Colombia itself has become a haven of religious freedom, a fact celebrated by Adventist Church leaders at a weekend conference of 5,000 people.

Hundreds of thousands of Adventist young people shared Jesus’ love in 132 countries for Global Youth Day on Sabbath, March 21, setting a new record that surpassed organizers’ expectations.
Numbers were still coming in late Saturday night, but Gilbert Cangy, youth ministries director for the Seventh-day Adventist world church, declared the third annual event a resounding success.

The Adventist Church’s newly formed Panama Union Mission announced that 2,530 people have been baptized since January as the result of a major evangelistic series.
The baptisms underscored a commitment by the local church to prepare people for Jesus’ return and provided a moment of nostalgia for visiting Adventist Church leader Ted N.C. Wilson, who was reminded that his father had led an evangelistic series 31 years earlier in Panama.

A vegetarian diet may reduce your risk of certain kinds of cancer by 22 percent, according to a new analysis from the Adventist Health Study-2.
Researchers at Loma Linda University Health found that eating a plant-based diet offers significant protection against cancers of the colon and rectum, the second-leading cause of cancer death in the United States after lung cancer.

At least four Seventh-day Adventist churches were flattened by a devastating cyclone that struck the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu over the weekend, church leaders said.
Many church members also have lost their homes and taken shelter in evacuation centers, but none are known to have been injured when Tropical Cyclone Pam pummeled the islands on Saturday.

The Philippines has granted approval for an Adventist medical school to begin classes in August, making it the first Adventist medical school in Asia and the denomination’s sixth medical school worldwide.
The Commission on Higher Education of the Philippines in December approved the opening of the Adventist University of the Philippines’ College of Medicine, located on campus in Silang in the province of Cavite.

Seventh-day Adventist churches are springing up around the world at the fastest rate in the denomination’s 152-year history, with a new building opening its doors to worshipers every 3.58 hours, according to newly released figures.
A record 2,446 new churches opened last year, helping fuel the largest single-year increase in membership and bringing total membership to nearly 18.5 million, according to the Office of Archives, Statistics, and Research.

Thirty inmates were baptized at a Togo prison chapel built by the Seventh-day Adventist Church after prison officials asked for help replacing a previous chapel that collapsed in bad weather.
The inmates took their stand for Jesus during a special dedication ceremony at the main prison in Lomé, the bustling capital of the sub-Saharan African country, Church leaders said Friday.

CNN television is featuring Loma Linda University and the surrounding Seventh-day Adventist community in southern California on a program about how to live a longer, healthier life.
The 30-minute program, “Vital Signs with Dr. Sanjay Gupta,” is being broadcast on CNN International throughout February and tackles the question, “What can one do to live a healthier, happier, and longer life?”

Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta visited the main campus of Adventist University Africa (AUA) on Sunday to support the construction of a new Health Sciences complex.
In a speech to a crowd of nearly 4,000, Kenyatta pledged his financial support for the initiative and commended the Adventist Church for being an “exemplary partner in transforming Kenya.”
