Inter-America’s ASi Convention Challenges Delegates to Strive for Wellness and Greater Service

Hundreds of Seventh-day Adventist business owners, lawyers and health professionals from across Inter-America were challenged to move forward in faith to expand the mission of the church in their businesses and communities, as the 16th Adventist-Laymen’s Services and Industries annual convention drew to a close in Panama City, Panama, on Aug. 19, 2017.

“You must have spiritual confidence in who God is, confidence in who you are in God, confidence in His power and confidence in the gifts He has given you,” said Dr. C. Wesley Knight, assistant professor of preaching and religion at Oakwood University, during the final charge of the event.

Prayers for Barcelona as 13 Killed, Dozens Injured in Attack

A van has killed 13 people and injured more than 80 others in a popular tourist area of Barcelona, Spain, in what police are treating as a terrorist attack. It is the latest in a series of horrific vehicle related attacks in several European cities over recent months.

Leaders of the Seventh-day Adventist Church across Europe have been quick to express their sorrow and horror at yet such another incident and are calling for prayers for those affected by the incident.

Inter-America’s 16th ASi’s Convention Opens Focusing Members to Wellness and Service

Inter-America’s Adventist Laymen’s Services and Industries (ASi) Annual Convention kicked off last night in Panama City, Panama, challenging Adventist business owners, lawyers and health professionals from across the vast territory to trust God’s providence and commit to seeking wellness in the church and the community.

ASi is an organization of the Seventh-day Adventist laypeople involved in professions, industry, education and/or services and exists to challenge, nurture and provide experience in sharing Christ in the marketplace as well as supporting the church’s worldwide mission.

Long-Standing IAD Vice President Receives Honorary Doctorate Degree in Jamaica

Northern Caribbean University (NCU) conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity Degree on Pastor Leon B. Wellington during the institution’s 94th Commencement (Graduation) ceremonies on campus in Mandeville, Jamaica, Aug. 13, 2017. Wellington, who recently retired from serving as vice president of the Inter-American Division (IAD), was honored for his service to religion and his contribution to Jamaica.

“You Are Here to Change the Future”

The auditorium housing South America’s largest Seventh-day Adventist Church on the campus of Brazil’s Centro Universitário Adventista de São Paulo (UNASP) was packed to standing room only on Friday evening. Students, faculty and community members joined more than 800 GAiN attendees for a vespers service featuring dynamic music and a message by Erton Köhler, president of the South American Division, a region of the Church encompassing eight countries.

Public Campus Ministries Strengthens Across Mexico and Central America

Hundreds of Seventh-day Adventists studying in non-Adventist universities in parts of Mexico and Central America recommitted to sharing hope on their campuses and communities recently, thanks to an initiative put in place by the church’s Public Campus Ministries. The initiative is designed to establish centers of Christian influence in universities not operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

What Fossil Whale Bones Tell Us About the Flood

“My research on fossil whales and sediments does not prove the Genesis Flood,” said Geoscience Research Institute senior researcher Raul Esperante, “but it does give support to it.” Esperante, a Seventh-day Adventist paleontologist and professor, addressed hundreds of Adventist professors, high-school science teachers, and church ministerial directors, during the North-American Division Faith & Science Conference in St. George, Utah, United States, last month.

From Sleeping on the Church Steps to Singing in the Pews

A homeless man went from sleeping on the steps of a local Seventh-day Adventist Church in St. Croix, Virgin Islands, to worshipping in the church and spreading the Good News of the Gospel.

It took Rudolph St. Clair Knight, 64, over a year of sleeping on the premises of the Faith Seventh-day Adventist Church in Frederiksted, St. Croix, to turn from a lifestyle of drugs, alcohol, and living on the streets, thanks to a breakfast ministry began by church members to feed the homeless and needy in the community.

Catering for Christ Without Shrimp and Rum in Jamaica

Junior Roberts, 28, and his 27-year-old wife, Stephanie, ran into trouble when they were baptized and changed the business model for their catering company in Jamaica’s capital, Kingston.

They stopped serving lobster and liquor, and turned down lucrative contracts on Friday nights and Saturdays.

But the married couple said they have never been happier — and their business is now flourishing.
