In Panama, Adventist Pastor Remembers Ministering to Former General Manuel Noriega

From the moment he found out that General Manuel Noriega, a former military dictator in Panama serving a sentence in France, was going to be extradited back to Panama in 2011, Seventh-day Adventist Pastor Jose Daniel Sánchez knew he wanted to meet him.

Noriega, who died in prison at 83 last week, was captured when the United States invaded Panama in 1989, and sentenced him to prison for drug trafficking, money laundering, and other charges. Noriega served 17 years in the Federal Correction Institution in Miami until 2007, then served a sentence in France, and was serving a two-term 20-year sentence for money laundering and the murders of his opponents in Panama.

In Puerto Rico, Homeless Wash Feet for First Time

A group of church members gathered in a Puerto Rican park at 5 a.m. Sabbath to pray, read the Bible, and eat a light breakfast.

Little did they expect to watched by homeless people when they were ejected from their usual spot and met in the city’s central square instead.

The one-off move, however, changed their meetings permanently. Their monthly gathering has transformed into a weekly worship and breakfast for the homeless that culminated in a special communion service with grape juice, bread, and foot washing.

They took over a government hospital and burned a private Christian college and the city jail prompting Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte to declare martial law in the island of Mindanao.

Another 26 were taken to a nearby hospital where a 17-year-old girl died from her injuries. The group was returning from a regional youth congress when the accident occurred.

Yesterday evening, May 22, Manchester, the United Kingdom’s second largest city, found itself victim to another act of terrorism. Adventist Radio Looks to Adapt to Changing Trends, Technologies

The world of radio is changing. Analogue is switching to digital with AM and FM transmissions switching to Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB), online and broadcast-on-demand services.
