Zarith Méndez of the North Colombia region took the top spot as the Bible Boom grand prize winner today during Inter-America’s territory-wide Bible competition held in San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic.
Méndez with a score of 450 points, beat 20 other regional finalists in the 13th such annual event held across the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Inter-America. She answered 45 questions in 3:56 minutes.

In just a few hours, Inter-America’s final Bible Boom event will host its annual bible quiz competition in San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic.
The program is scheduled to begin today at 4:30 p.m. Santo Domingo Time or 3:30 p.m. Miami Time, and will be streamed live online on Youth IAD Facebook page, Jovenes DIA in front of a 4,000 audience at the Polideportivo Complex in the Central East University Campus.

ome 600 children from the Wayuu ethnic community in Uribia, La Guajira, North Colombia, received a new bicycle thanks to the Seventh-day Adventist Church and its members who volunteered to motivate children to attend school every day. The initiative coined as “Wheels to Educate” concluded its annual initiative by delivering the bicycles to one of the most drought-stricken areas, Nov. 7-12, 2016.

A newly formed Adventist Church for the deaf began with a special inaugural worship service at the Portmore Adventist Church in St. Catherine, Jamaica, last month. The event brought more than 80 people including deaf, or hard-of-hearing, individuals, family members, supporters and church officials to the ceremony held on Nov. 12, 2016.
Executive Director for the Jamaica Association for the Deaf, Dr. Iris Soutar, commended the Adventist Church for being the first to organize a church for the deaf. “You are empowering this community and that is very good,” said Soutar.

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) in West Venezuela provided assistance to hundreds affected by the mudslides and flooding last month, after torrential rain hit communities in Timotes, in the State of Mérida. It was the first time in 30 years that several ravines gave way, causing rocks, mud, and debris to cover homes, streets, and vehicles, local leaders said.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Inter-America provided newly appointed church administrators from the territory’s major church regions, or unions, local fields, and institutions a special online orientation yesterday to assist them as they lead and make decisions for the fulfillment of the work in the Inter-American division territory.
The one-day training session of November 30, 2016, falls under the IAD’s Segment Leaders Development (SeLD) program and focused primarily on those who serve on committees and boards, organizers said.

The leader of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the South American region expressed his condolences after a plane carrying a Brazilian soccer team and a considerable number of reporters crashed in a rugged area south of the Colombian city of Medellín Monday night.
Pastor Erton Köhler, president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in South America, expressed regret over the tragic accident which, according to various media reports, claimed the lives of at least 76 people.
