Adventist leaders review church growth across Inter-America

Top Seventh-day Adventist administrators and church leaders from the Inter-American Division (IAD) concluded their annual year-end business meetings this week. They looked at the membership and financial growth of the IAD’s 24 major church regions so far this year. The more than 100 leaders representing the 44 countries and islands in the IAD gathered for the final two days of meetings in San Salvador, El Salvador, held Oct. 29-30, 2016.

ADRA shipping 2.85 million meals to Haiti

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency has partnered with Stop Hunger Now, a nongovernmental organization, to deliver 2,851,200 meals to people in Haiti as part of the ongoing Hurricane Matthew disaster response.

ADRA and Stop Hunger Now sent the first 285,120 meals by airplane from Miami on Nov. 1 with the assistance of Airlink, a rapid-response relief organization that links nonprofit groups with partner airlines in emergencies.

In St. Croix, Adventist Churches organize mental health expo with local university

Nursing students from the University of the Virgin islands (UVI) in St. Croix partnered with two Seventh-day Adventist congregations to offer health screenings and join a health expo that featured mental health counseling and healthy lifestyle.

NAD Executive Committee votes continued support of World Church

After three hours of discussion, 2016 NAD Year-End Meeting delegates voted on two motions pertaining to the General Conference (GC) Unity in Mission document. The discussion was broken into two segments, one on Oct. 28, and the second on Oct. 31.

The first motion was made near the conclusion of the Oct. 28 session. Randall Wisbey, president of La Sierra University, commented on how the GC has not included Sandra Roberts, president of the Southeastern California Conference, in the church’s yearbook.

In Puerto Rico, Adventists point to Jesus during US election year

Seventh-day Adventists took to the streets of several cities and towns last weekend to spread hope for a better future in Jesus as U.S. elections draw to a close in the coming days.

Hundreds of church members waved flags and caravanned through communities in Aguas Buenas, Cidra and Cayey in the southeastern part of the island. It was the last in a multi-city plan to point people to Jesus Christ as the end of primary elections takes place on Nov. 8, organizers said.

In the Dominican Republic, Adventists continue sharing hope during national outreach campaign

Seventh-day Adventists in the Dominican Republic shared messages of hope with hundreds of people in the city of Azua in the southern part of the island during a citywide impact on Oct. 22, 2016. Church leaders and members provided music and drama performances on Bible prophecy and distributed magazines at the Juan Pablo Duarte Park.

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) in the Dominican Republic distributed dozens of backpacks filled with school supplies to needy children of the city in coordination with the Hispanic Association for Citizenship Development in the Dominican Republic.

Adventist Church inaugurates new headquarter office in El Salvador

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in El Salvador celebrated the inauguration of the church’s new headquarter office during a special ceremony yesterday in San Salvador, El Salvador.

“You have this beautiful great office now, so may everyone who comes to this building see the glory of God shinning through you,” said Tim Aka, associate treasurer for the Adventist world church, as he spoke to the hundreds of top church leaders from the Adventist World Church, the Inter-American Division, local church members and neighbors witnessed the historic event.

In Inter-America, Leaders approve initiatives for greater membership involvement

Getting more members involved in the mission of the church was one central point top level Seventh-day Adventist leaders in Inter-America focused on as day one of church business meetings began yesterday in Miami, Florida. The Year-End Executive Committee meetings, which took place via conference from the Inter-American Division (IAD) Headquarters, connected church leaders from across the 24 unions, or church regions, to vote on plans, initiatives, and activities for the next months and years.

Inter-America’s Health Food Company seeks to increase financial support for the church

Top managers of the Inter-American Health Food Company laid out plans and strategies to promote healthy foods and increase its monetary contribution toward the mission of the church across the territory, during its year-end board meeting held in Miami, Florida, on Oct. 25, 2016.

“We want the Health Food Company to be an indispensable tool in the fulfillment of the mission in the territory where it operates,” said Filiberto Verduzco, treasurer of the church in Inter-America and president of Inter-American Health Food Company (IAHFC).

Andrea Luxton Inaugurated as 6th President of Andrews University

Andrea Luxton, new president of Andrews University, said at her inauguration ceremony that stopping to listen to God’s still, small voice would be key for the university as it embarks on a new chapter of its history.

Luxton spoke Tuesday at a pomp-filled ceremony themed around the story of Andrews and titled “1874: Our Story, Next Chapter: 2016.” The school was founded in 1874.
