In Guatemala, Church strives to improve infrastructure in educational system

The Adventist educational system in Guatemala continues to strengthen as leaders invest resources in its infrastructure, school expansions, teachers and ensuring quality Christian education to its thousands of students.

Just recently, a large new school was inaugurated in Guatemala City as “Juan el Bautista, Adventist School” (or John the Baptist Adventist School) with a large campus of 34 classrooms and with the capacity for 800 students.

In St. Maarten, Bible Café brings Adventist young adults to study the Word of God

A Bible Café in the Caribbean island of St. Maarten is keeping Adventist young adults interested in studying their Sabbath School lesson every week. For nearly a year now, some two-dozen young adults from the Philipsburg Adventist Church take time to munch on the Word of God together and connect in a friendly environment.

In Inter-America, Leaders pray to reach 1.2 million new members by 2020

Top Seventh-day Adventist leaders from throughout the Inter-American Division (IAD) prayed recently on the shores of the Jordan River, which borders Israel, the West Bank, and Jordan, as they prepared to bring in over one million new members during the next five-year period.

The special prayer ceremony took place after 10 days of training in Israel, which gathered 75 IAD administrators and evangelists last month.

Adventists propose new field of public health: Environmental Nutrition

Seventh-day Adventist researchers from Loma Linda University have proposed a new field of research that would underscore the environmental benefits of a vegetarian diet.

The California-based university’s School of Public Health proposes the introduction of the new field, Environmental Nutrition, in a paper that will be published in the May issue of the American Journal of Public Health.

Adventists Express Love for People of Pakistan After Deadly Attack

Seventh-day Adventist believers expressed shock — and love — after a suicide bombing in a large park in Lahore, Pakistan, killed more than 70 people on a day that much of the Christian world was celebrating Easter Sunday.

“We extend our heartfelt sympathy and love to the precious people of Pakistan and the major city of Lahore for the tragedy that has taken place in the horrible bombing of one of its parks,” Ted N.C. Wilson, president of the Adventist world church, said Monday on his Facebook page.

In October 2016, thousands of viewers will be tuning in to a special It Is Written television program celebrating the past 60 years of this international evangelistic media ministry. Since 1956, It Is Written has used the most updated technology to share the love of Christ. Today, It Is Written is headquartered in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and its programming can be viewed by 97 percent of the world’s population.

How should Adventists respond to Brussels attacks?

Adventists believers in Europe and elsewhere were reeling after bomb attacks at the international airport and a subway station in Belgium’s capital, Brussels, killed more than 30 people on March 22.

Islamic State militants have claimed responsibility for the bloodshed, and authorities have warned that additional attacks may follow.

In Cuba, Adventist Church remains hopeful for positive change after US presidential visit

President Barack Obama’s historic visit to Cuba this week inspired hope in the Seventh-day Adventist Church on the island. The church believes that a thaw in US-Cuba relations could mean greater opportunities for evangelism and church growing.

Aldo Perez, president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Cuba, was one of only 20 religious leaders selected by the Cuban government to attend President Obama’s speech in Havana yesterday.

In Jamaica, educator calls for greater collaboration to transition special needs students

A lack of information is hindering the process of transition of specials needs students in primary schools. This was disclosed by Education Officer for Special Education in the Ministry of Education Heather Lyn during her presentation at the Abilities Transition Conference hosted by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Jamaica.

Lyn, who has responsibility for the supervision of special education programs in primary schools said that information is crucial to the process of transition of students with special needs from home to school, grade to grade, school to school, and school into the wider community.

Adventist leader in Belgium narrowly misses subway explosion

The leader of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Belgium narrowly missed one of three explosions that rocked Brussels on Tuesday after deciding at the last minute to travel by car to work instead of making his customary trip on the subway.

But Jeroen Tuinstra, president of the church’s Belgium-Luxembourg Conference, made no mention about his close call in an e-mailed statement, saying instead that he was praying for those affected by the tragedy and for the safety of city residents.
