As global alarm grows about the Zika virus, hundreds of thousands of Seventh-day Adventists in one of the most affected countries, Brazil, decided to respond with their hands and feet.
The Adventist Church in Brazil kicked off the Zika Project, a national campaign to raise awareness, prevent new infections, and mobilize people to act against a virus that the World Health Organization has declared a global public health emergency.

Southern Adventist University has blocked a social media app and organized a series of open discussions on race after insensitive comments were posted during a campus worship service led by an African-American seminary student.
The anonymous comments appeared on Yik Yak as Corey Johnson, an Oakwood University graduate and seminarian at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University, spoke at a Friday evening vespers on Feb. 26.

Robert E. Kyte, president and chief executive officer of Adventist Risk Management, has announced his retirement from the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Kyte will retire on May 31 to pursue other business interests in Idaho, according to Adventist Risk Management, or ARM, which offers insurance and other solutions for minimizing risks within the Adventist Church.

Andrea Luxton has been named as the next president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s flagship Andrews University, offering what colleagues call a stellular track record in leadership as she joins a growing number of female presidents at Adventist institutions of higher education.
The Berrien Springs, Michigan-based university announced Tuesday that its board of trustees had elected Luxton, the university’s provost since 2010, to replace Niels-Erik Andreasen when he retires after 22 years as president at the end of the current academic year.

When the Seventh-day Adventist Church first asked George Vandeman to try to use television as a means of reaching people with the gospel, the project failed.
It was the late 1940s, and people were unsure how to use television for Christian programming. Not everyone was convinced that the new technology had a future.

Gilbert Cangy, youth director for the Seventh-day Adventist world church, will fly around the world in 24 hours next month — and he is inviting you to accompany him on the trip.
Cangy will don a pilot’s uniform and embark on a 24-city tour that starts in the Fiji islands and soars through Australia, India, the Middle East, and Norway before touching down in the United States at the end of Global Youth Day on Sabbath, March 19.
