Adventists file lawsuit against U.S. city for banning literature evangelism

A U.S. conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and two of its members filed a lawsuit against an Arkansas city on Jan. 19 over a local ordinance that prevents door-to-door literature evangelism.

The lawsuit, filed by the Arkansas-Louisiana Conference, asks a U.S. district court to declare the ordinance enacted by White Hall, population 5,500, to be unconstitutional and a violation of the first amendment right to free speech.

New Adventist encyclopedia gets off the ground

Spies are in. Subcultures are out. And cosmetics and dance belong together in a single article titled “Lifestyle.”

These were among the decisions made this week as a 26-member editorial committee behind the new Encyclopedia of Seventh-day Adventists gathered for the first time to fine-tune topics and adjust the vision of the $1.6 million, five-year project.

Leaders in Inter-America review financial system and recommit to fostering faithfulness among church members

Vegan diet cuts risk of prostate cancer, Adventist study finds

Men who follow a vegan diet are a third less likely to develop prostate cancer, according to a new study by Loma Linda University Health.

The study, published in the January issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, saw a reduced risk in both white and possibly black males who adhered to a vegan diet without meat, dairy, and eggs.

Inter-America’s Public Campus Ministries launches strategic plans focused on discipleship and missions during congress event

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Inter-America officially launched its key strategic plans for Public Campus Ministries during a territory-wide congress of more than 700 university students, professionals and church leaders in Havana, Cuba, Dec. 18-21, 2015.

The four-day event was intended to provide leadership skills and training to hundreds of Adventist students studying in non-Adventist universities throughout the Inter-American Division (IAD) to recommit their loyalty to God’s Word, become active disciples of Jesus and be transformed into missionaries on their campuses and in their communities.

Oakwood cuts 46 jobs as Adventist enrollment declines across U.S.

Oakwood University announced Thursday a major personnel restructuring that will eliminate 46 jobs as it seeks to streamline operations and better position itself amid challenging times for Seventh-day Adventist education in North America.

Four faculty members and 18 staff members have taken a voluntary exit package, and another 26 staff positions are being eliminated, consolidated

In Nicaragua, Adventist youth collect funds to help children with disabilities

The Teleton Nicaragua Foundation, a well-known NGO which raises funds to help young people with disabilities, asked the Seventh-day Adventist Church to help collect funds in Nicaragua.

The foundation contacted church leaders to coordinate its young people from its pathfinder clubs, master guides and adventurer clubs, for the start of its annual fundraising campaign to benefit those with special needs.

In the Dominican Republic, Adventist radio station is awarded nationally for its daily family program

The Seventh-day Adventist Church’s radio station was granted a national award by the government of the Dominican Republic last month for its positive contributions to health on the island.

The “National Medical Award”, a recognition granted once a year to doctors and institutions who perform positive contributions to society, was the first the church’s Radio Amanecer received for its daily program called “Let’s Restore the Family.”
