New discovery bears the name of King Hezekiah

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem announced a significant discovery last week: the first seal impression of a Judahite king ever found by archaeologists in Jerusalem.

The impression says, “Belonging to Hezekiah [son of] Ahaz, king of Judah.”

Newbold students make ‘harrowing, humbling’ visit to migrant camp

A group of 10 people traveled by minibus from the Newbold College of Higher Education for a “harrowing, appalling, and humbling” visit to a migrant camp in Dunkirk, France, as Seventh-day Adventist volunteers expanded efforts to make a difference in Europe’s migrant crisis.

Seven students and three faculty members made the two-hour trip across the English Channel to distribute food, sleeping bags, clothing, towels, blankets, toiletries, and other donated goods to some of the 2,000 migrants living at the camp.

Inter-America’s Public Campus Ministries congress set to take place in Cuba

Inter-America’s Public Campus Ministries will officially launch its strategic plans for the next five years by gathering over 600 leaders and delegates across the territory in Cuba this month. The event will be the first of its kind to serve as a training congress to dozens of local field leaders, university students and professionals from across the Inter-American Division (IAD) in Havana, the island’s capital city on Dec. 17-22, 2015.

Colombian congress honors ADRA for its decades-long contribution to disaster relief and community building

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) in Colombia was honored by the House of Representatives in Colombia for the more than 25 years of dedicated work in the country, during a special ceremony held at the Congress building in Bogota on Dec. 1, 2015.

House Representative Hernan Sinisterra Valencia thanked ADRA for its early role in providing assistance and humanitarian aid in the wake of one of the November 1985 mudslide that buried the town of Armero and claimed the lives of thousands.

Adventist woman injured in California shooting speaks of Jesus’ return

A Seventh-day Adventist believer who miraculously escaped a mass shooting in southern California with nonlife-threatening head, arm, and leg injuries says she hopes the tragedy will somehow alert people that Jesus is coming soon.

Amanda Gaspard was overseeing a conference and holiday luncheon organized by the San Bernardino County Health Department at a social services center in San Bernardino, California, when two assailants went on a shooting rampage Wednesday, killing at least 14 people and injuring 17.

ADRA Inter-America recognizes partnerships and cites major accomplishments

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) in the Inter-American Division (IAD) celebrated its progress across the church territory during a recent board meeting to close the previous five-year period.

Top Seventh-day Adventist leaders praised the work of ADRA Inter-America and its outgoing director, Wally Amundson, for being instrumental in the 14-year-long partnership with the North American Division’s (NAD) ingathering program, Hope for Humanity, to advance literacy.

Adventists launch first mobile medical and dental clinic in Jamaica

The Braeton Seventh-day Adventist Church in Central Jamaica is now prepared to take basic medical and dental care to the doorsteps of residents in surrounding communities of the church with the creation of the first Adventist-owned mobile medical and dental clinic to be launched in Jamaica.

The church has been helping more than 600 persons through its annual community back-to-school health fair since 2003 and is hoping that with the mobile clinic, the community can be impacted greater.

In Cuba, Adventists take part in international fair during church’s annual lay convention

Hundreds of Seventh-day Adventists participated in Cuba’s largest International Agriculture and Cattle Fair last month in Havana.

More than 500 health promoters, bible workers, and lay evangelists participated in the international fair as they also gathered for the church’s fourth annual Adventist Bible Workers and Healthy Lifestyle Convention, Oct. 15-28, 2015.
