6,192 Treated at Free Adventist Clinic in San Antonio

A total of 6,192 people received in excess of $10 million in free Adventist healthcare at a San Antonio stadium, organizers said Friday as they started looking toward the next free mega clinic in the U.S. state of Washington this summer.

Torrential rain on Friday morning did not stop more than 1,700 doctors, dentists, and other volunteers from seeing hundreds more patients as they wrapped up three days of work at the Alamodome stadium.

Ellen White gets a world-class visitor center

James R. Nix, director of the Ellen G. White Estate, felt a pang of jealousy when he saw a statue of Joseph Smith.

The statue, which depicted Smith being commissioned as a prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, caught Nix’s eye when he and his wife entered a visitor center several years ago in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Hope Channel starts drive to rebuild Vanuatu churches

Hope Channel has set up a special fund to raise money to rebuild the 53 Adventist churches destroyed last month by Cyclone Pam on the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu.

“The Adventist Church in Vanuatu needs our help to rebuild,” the Adventist-owned channel said in an appeal on its website. “Give a little to help Vanuatu a lot.”

Church leaders confirm 10 Adventists were killed in Garissa University massacre

Gunmen stormed Garissa University College, located in Garissa, Kenya on Thursday, April 2, leaving an estimated 147 people dead. It is being reported that members of a terrorist group targeted and killed Christian students, including 10 Seventh-day Adventists.

Among the dead was Eric Nyumbuto, the leader of the student-led Adventist Church on campus.

Book provides practical ways to seek and retain members

A new book on organizing the church for evangelism and discipleship of new members was released recently and aims to provide innovative insight into seeking, winning and conserving new members.

Pastor Balvin Braham, author of the Book A Practical Guide to Evangelism How to Win and Keep New Members, says this book is intended to strengthen soul-winning and conservation efforts within the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Thousands line up for free Adventist healthcare in San Antonio

Scores of people stood in line overnight outside a San Antonio stadium to receive an estimated $10 million in free medical and dental services that Seventh-day Adventist health professionals plan to give 6,000 people over the next three days.

Some 2,000 to 3,000 people were waiting outside the Alamodome when its doors opened at 7 a.m. Wednesday, said Daniel Weber, communication director for the Adventist Church’s North American Division, who is co-organizing the event.

Adventist church president holds first meeting with UN chief

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed concerns about growing religious intolerance worldwide during a private meeting with Adventist Church leader Ted N.C. Wilson, and he invited the Seventh-day Adventist Church to work with the UN in helping people.

Wilson, the first Adventist Church president to meet with a UN chief, noted that the church has long supported religious liberty and said it was willing to team up on initiatives that followed Christ’s ministry of helping people physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually.

More than one million new members joined the church as Inter-America’s five-year initiative draws to a close

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Inter-America sealed its five-year territory-wide evangelistic initiative called Vision One Million during a three-hour live satellite program from Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, Saturday night.

The event represented the culmination of thousands of evangelistic campaigns that took place during the last three months throughout the Inter-American Division (IAD) territory.
